Our assignment for today was to take our building and change it's function then adapt its structure to its new function. I turned the Tyrell offices to and environmentally friendly office for a company. It was a lot of fun because you had to consider what is and is not environmentally friendly, what would conserve energy, insulate heat, have the most natural light. I enjoyed doing this more because I felt like there was more of a purpose behind it.
I've decided to open up the entire ceiling to allow natural light to enter which would cut out energy costs. T've also taken inspiration from a building near my home in South Africa called the Cradle of Humankind and am covering the outside walls with grass to improve air quality. I've also turned the outer parts of the Tyrell building into solar panels for sustainable energy. I'm not entirely sure If I'll keep them the same shape and size because on the one hand if their really big they could supply shade for the building which would cool the building in Summer, but on the other hand it will cover the whole building.
