Today we carried on with what we were working on. I learned how to saw through a metal rod vertically. It's not easy and it takes long. I had to use a carpenter vice to hold the rod in place and use a ferris saw to cut through the top downwards. I didn't get very far because it took a long time and my hand was in pain but I did a decent enough amount that I colour split the top with pliers to branch out the two metal pieces. I also learned how to cut a large circle out of a flat piece of wood. You have to take something that looks like a big spiky compass and carve into the wood, then drill a whole into it (I used a hand rill) then you take a fretsaw and saw a circle out of the wood.
As I went on developing my sculpture I realised that some of the things that worked in my drawings may not work in real life so I adjusted them, which cause me not having a design. But it's ok because with a project like this all that I had to do was play around and adjust some things. In the end I really like what came out of it, although I do suspect that me sawing tirelessly through the metal rod didn't do anything spectacular to my piece. It's ok though, I learned at least that I can do it if I ever need to do something similar to that in the future.
