So about a week ago my friends and I did the make up part of my geisha project.
The whole ordeal took so much work. Just the preparation was a lot. A week ago i went to a victorian tea room in Falmouth and was inspired by the location, I knew immediately that that was where I wanted the photoshoot to take place. I asked the lady and she was happy to comply, we agreed that I could start shooting at 16:00 the next week and had to finish by 19:00.
I decided to get a crew together and found two students who were in the lens based group who knew a lot about photography, and two ethnically asian students to be my models.
On the day of the shoot I got lights from wellington terrace and made sure my photographers had their cameras. I went shopping for snacks as I didn't want anybody to get hungry, and ran up to Woodlane to print out pictures of gieshas. I also made sure that things were still on with the lady who owned the tea room. She had forgotten that it was student day and asked if we could shoot later, which ended up being about 5 o'clock. I also realised that I forgot my make up designs at Wellington terrace and a few props at my flat so I ran back to get them only to realise that no one was at Wellington terrace and that I didn't know the code. We only had two hours to get through all 4 designs and shoot them!! I was freaking out and called Maggie (one of my photographers) I think she could ear the panic in my voice and told me that she will start prepping the models faces and send me the code. I wish i didn't panic the way I did and stayed calm but as momentum picked up again I regained focus and headed back to the tea room once I got my designs.
We began putting the make up on, and though I was planning on putting Prawta's make up on myself, she insisted that she would as she was much quicker and skilled at it. In the end of the day I co ordinated the shoot, and organised and kept everyone happy, but did none of the actual work myself. I left that up to my make up artists, models and Photographers. If i didn't like what someone was doing I would tell them, and I did the same if i thought someone was doing a good job. I really enjoyed telling people what they needed to do. And once the shoot was over everyone said that they were proud and happy with the work that they did. They even asked for the photographs.
Unfortunately we couldn't get through all of my designs and ended up only doing 2, but with the ones that we did do, I was proud of.
If I could do anything differently it would be to have began preparing Prawta and Jaenette at Wellington Terrace and then we could have maybe had enough time to do the last two make up designs.
All in all it was a good learning experience.
