I've recently been researching different TV type advertisements and decided to create a post that has my favourite advertisements that I want to talk about. I've also made a youtube playlist with my favourite adverts.

Nandos:
Nandos, a South African fast food chain has branded their advertisments to be similar to that of The United Colours of Benetton Racism campaign advert, in the sense that they take tough political happenings and use it to their advantage. They turn something that is usually very serious into something that is both funny and contraversal. It shocks its audiance causing them to remember it.
These advertisements are only successful however due to the cultural settings. If the same advert was shown in a different country, the inhabitents would be left perplexed.
List of funny Nandos adverts:
Nandos double breasted chicken
Nandos the last dictator standing
Nandos for four

Axe:
Ax is a deodorant company that's main brand is sex appeal. Over the past few years they have come out with many funny and sexy adverts used to sell to a young target a male audience in the search for girlfriends.
List of Great Axe adverts:
Make love not war
Even angels fall
Save water
Axe's commercials are usually revolved around what is sexy. Usually there is an incredibly beautiful woman (or women) or end up not being able to resist the average man/boy once he sprays one of Axe's latest products on themselves. Their usually so ridiculous and over the top that they become funny as well as sexy. One of my favourite Axe advertisements is Axe's Make love not War. It revolves around stereotypes of hardships in foreign countries. The initial few seconds are somber with a cold desolate filter and sad music playing in the background, suggesting that what is about to be shown is heartbreaking. This message is accentuated with a dolls head being crushed by a tank (the destruction of innocence and happiness). Every man that is shown afterwards is in a military uniform looking worried, serious or even a little sinister. In the next three scenes women are shown as well. They seem equally as serious and their eyes even suggest pain. They are afraid. One women is shown positioning herself in front of a tank while the rest of the population run away, another woman beside her her army official husband, silent and even lost, and the final woman, looking out into the rice fields, living a humble life. She walks up to a military helicopter while soldiers jump out with their guns. A few other events occur that imply that something big is about to happen, someone may die, a war may break out. The music picks up the pace whilst all this is happening, imitating the heartbeats of the viewer. However the advert ends with the men and the women embracing instead and being asked to marry them or a celebration breaks out. The advert ends with "make War not Peace".
I've noticed that most adverts tend to be revolved around stereotypes. The people making those advertisement either conform to the stereotype, or break it. I find that when a stereotype is broken, especially executed beautifully, is much more shocking and affective than the latter.
